With the new year comes a new crop of couples looking for the latest wedding tips and trends.

Corsetted waists and flounsy skirts, as in this dress by Manuel Mendoza, are among the hot looks of 2006

THE DRESS
Traditional big-skirted princess-style dresses will always be with us, says Margit McCorkle of Manuel Mendoza Couture, one Vancouver's premiere wedding stylists. However, the leading-edge trends for 2006 include lots of lace, tons of tulle and a variety of silhouettes. Strapless dresses are also a staple but less popular this year, she says. Sleek, high-necked lace dresses, tulle dresses with flounces, corsetted waists with deeply draped tops and long, flouncy skirts are the look for the new year.
"The silhouette is closer to the body," says McCorkle. A retro look is popular and short is also in, she says, for non-traditional weddings. Overall, it's "flirty, fun, flouncy and close to the body," she says.
